How it all began...
This is the journey of our Founder and head of school, Rita Clark.
A recent national report revealed that Delaware ranks 45th in educational outcomes, underscoring significant challenges in academic performance and student well-being, particularly with declining test scores and rising absenteeism. It is clear that American children face educational disadvantages; however, recent surveys indicate that only one in five parents express dissatisfaction with their child's educational experience. This one parent out of five symbolizes the underserved community that we are dedicated to serving.
Our narrative begins with a devoted mother who sought the best for her family.
Reflecting on her childhood, she recalls the joy of returning home to share her day and everything she had learned with a caring mother who listened intently and nurtured her love for education. Unfortunately, this was not the experience she encountered with her own children. She witnessed their transformation from eager learners to children who dreaded the dawn, signaling the start of a new school day. With low test scores, poor grades, and a lack of communication between home and school, it became evident that a problem existed. As an educator, she understood that the decline in her children's performance could not solely be attributed to the school; the essential partnership between home and school had yet to be established. Balancing her role as a full-time leader, mother, entrepreneur, and wife left her feeling exhausted, disheartened, and disconnected from the educational process. Many would say, “ Ask the school for help.” She would reply, “I have, on many occasions, with no success, and I have the email trail to prove it.”
Was the school indifferent, or did her family merely slip through the system?
Rather than seeking sympathy, she took proactive steps. She left her full-time job to become a dedicated teacher and home manager. By understanding each of her children's unique learning styles, she crafted individualized learning plans. Within weeks, she observed improvements in their moods, sleep patterns, and overall academic performance. This approach was effective for her. With pride, she shared her success with anyone willing to listen, inspiring many others to take control of their children's educational journeys.
